Laurel House is a student-run coed community that offers a unique living experience. Laurel focuses on fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.  The members of Laurel House strive to build a close-knit, diverse community and where members can thrive. Residents come together and plan a range of activities and events, such as musical performances, parties, and educational workshops. The house has shared common areas where residents can gather to socialize or study. The main attraction is the large courtyard, which contains a basketball court, fireplace, outdoor seating, and a student-run garden.

If you are seeking something other than typical dorm life, Laurel has a lot to offer. Living in Laurel House can be a great way to connect with other students, get involved in campus life, and develop important life skills like leadership, communication, and teamwork while accomplishing your academic goals.

Diversity
Laurel is proud to have a diverse range of members coming from different backgrounds and life experiences. Our co-op has included members from all throughout the United States and from countries such as:

Argentina   Australia   Brazil   China   Denmark   France   Germany   Italy   Japan   Mexico   New Zealand   Russia   South Korea   Spain   Turkey   …And many more!

Location
Laurel House is located in the West Campus neighborhood on the corner of Nueces Street and Martin Luther King Blvd – a mere five-minute walk from the UT-Austin campus, Target, several restaurants, and bus lines.

House Labor
Our co-op is member-run, and much like other housing co-ops, each member performs a few hours of labor every week, to foster a clean and comfortable living environment. Members sign up for labor at the beginning of each semester, and Labor is assigned according to your semester schedule. Labor assignments take into account your academic schedule, work schedules, and personal preferences.

House labor duties include cooking, cleaning, Labor Holiday and general house upkeep. We may also have call outs for cleaning as situations come up. Many of the amenities available at Laurel House are possible because of the labor performed by members!

Laurel House Rooms
Members stay in either a double room (two person room) with a private bathroom or a single room (one person room) that shares a bathroom with one with the adjoining room. We have a very limited number of single rooms with private bathrooms.

Meals
Included in your monthly rent is a meal plan. Laurel House typically serves 17 meals per week. Typically, these are breakfast, lunch and dinner during the weekdays. Saturday brunch and Sunday dinner. Breakfast is self-serve. Lunches can be cold (example: sandwiches, wraps, etc) or cooked. Dinner is typically a cooked meal. The style and number of meals depends on the number of members we have, out-of-our-control-events (such as COVID-19), and food budget.

Meals are typically available from the first day of class through the end of finals based on the University of Texas calendar, except for UT holidays.
