Here at the Pearl St Co-op, we are a diverse community of 120 students from all around the world and of all ages. A typical member loves playing ping pong and lounging on the balcony, but they also love art, music, and nature. We at pearl pride ourselves with being a staple in West Campus for music, art, and generally helping “Keep Austin Weird.” We love our Thursday nights downtown, being the center of attention on the dance floor, and singing oldies classics at Barberellas. We like to fill our weekends with trips to the green belt, hosting bands in our courtyard, and sometimes camping or traveling. Our members have done all sorts of amazing things and each contributes to the house in their own special way. In the past we have had people lead yoga classes, teach dance or art classes, make homemade ice cream and other late night snacks, fix and sew clothing, and more!
Originally built as a girls dormitory, the Pearl St Co-op building is filled with the history of past residents, even famous ones like Farrah Fawcett. While our Lady Pearl may look like a dorm on the outside, over the years our halls have been decorated and painted, creating a very unique space. There are residential rooms for op to 122 members, as well as many other common areas for studying and social events. We have a study/conference room, upstairs mezzanine that opens onto a balcony, a computer lounge, a gym, 2 laundry rooms and large communal dining room; all surrounded by the Pearlies’ rooms. We also have a full-sized industrial kitchen, a tv room, a swimming pool and courtyard, and Bart’s Landing, a deck area on the opposite side of the pool great for lounging and hanging out.
