Located 4 blocks west of the UT campus, Opsis offers the independence of an apartment with the sense of community that only a co-op can provide. Opsis’ 20 members are a close-knit group of graduate students. Many members enjoy a quiet and peaceful environment, which makes Opsis an ideal atmosphere for serious students. Opsisians have fun too! Between studies, members have plenty of opportunities to participate in “the West Campus life”, especially over the weekends.

Each apartment includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. Opsis’ ten 2-bedroom apartments come fully furnished. Each apartment has a couch, dining table, dining chairs, microwave, desk, desk chair, closet, beds, and mattresses. The furniture can be removed upon request. Two balconies per apartment look out over the tranquil, tree-lined streets. Cats are allowed in some apartments, and there is always a kitty at Opsis!

The best way to commute from Opsis to campus is by walking. Alternatively, there is a Bcycle station (the City of Austin’s 1-hour bicycle rental) and a bus station just 2 minutes’ walking distance from Opsis. In addition, our two bicycle rooms make it possible for members to securely store a bike. We even have a shared electric bike that members can use when available.

House meetings occur every other week, and attendance is mandatory. There are at least two social events per month at Opsis, which typically involve snacks! These socials are so vital to our co-op culture that attending two can make up for missing one house meeting.
While most College Houses co-ops require 4-6 hours of labor per resident per week, Opsis requires only one hour because we do not offer a meal plan. Every semester, each of the College Houses’ coops holds a “Labor Holiday.” Labor Holiday is a designated day when members work on projects that improve the condition of the house. At Opsis, Labor Holiday combines a fun social event and impactful labor projects.
