Preserve and Improve Our Co-ops

Our members and staff work daily to repair and maintain our seven co-op houses. With our buildings aging and costs rising every year, our houses need your help to keep up with maintenance while also keeping rents low. Please help today by donating directly to the house of your choice. Thank you!

Donation FAQ

Where does the money go?

Every donation made through the form above will be used exclusively to maintain and improve one of our co-op houses*, based on the “Sub Program” you select in the form. This could include repairs and improvements to structures, grounds maintenance, fixing or replacing fixtures and furniture, and other related needs.

*Because Halstead, Laurel, and Nueces Co-ops are all in the same building, funds for these houses may be used for building-wide projects that benefit all three houses.

Are there other funds I can donate to?

Yes, you can see more giving options on our Donate page. No matter how you give, your gift goes directly to supporting our members and our mission to provide affordable co-op housing in Austin.

How else can I donate?

Why is College Houses fundraising?

In the past, College Houses has relied almost entirely on rent to operate. However, as our buildings get older, the maintenance costs have risen greatly. Large projects like the 21st Street walkway repairs completed in 2019 will become more frequent, and many of these are likely to come with six- or seven-figure price tags. Without community support, co-opers may start to face hard choices, such as cutting budgets or raising rent significantly.

We are hard at work finding creative ways to fund major projects and renovations. However, we also know that we can’t be successful without direct help from our closest supporters. If you are an alum, or you find value in preserving our houses for the future, please consider helping in any way you can. Thank you!

How else can I help?
If you live near Austin and are willing to get your hands dirty, you can sign up for a Community Labor Holiday! Just like member labor holidays, Community Labor Holidays are a chance to come to our houses and contribute your time and energy for important interim maintenance tasks. Some past projects have included grounds maintenance, deep cleaning, and basic repairs. No experience is required.

There are plenty of other ways you can stay connected with co-ops. Learn how to get involved.
